peanut butter and jelly milkshake recipe

Milkshakes and coolers are the best part of the summers; they not only make the season bearable but also enjoyable. Not to mention, milkshakes are very quick and easy to make. All you need is a hint of creative imagination to come up with great tasting combination of ingredients. Peanut butter and jelly are a match made in heaven. Most of us enjoy peanut butter and jelly in the form of sandwiches. I thought, why not delicious milkshake with it. So here is a supremely rich and flavourful peanut butter and jelly milkshake recipe (पीनट बटर एंड जेली मिल्कशेक रेसिपी) for you!

Believe it or not, the PB & J milkshake has been a favorite in America. They serve a mean peanut butter and jelly milkshake at the 50’s Prime Time Cafe inside the Disney Hollywood Studio. If you are looking for cool drinks to make at home on a hot summer afternoon, you should definitely try this American classic.

It’s still not as popular in India but definitely deserves to be. So let’s step out of our comfort zone and whip up a few peanut butter and jelly milkshakes that the kids would absolutely love! Jelly is  another name for jam and it has nothing to do with Jell-o as some of us might think.

choosing the jam/jelly for the peanut butter and jelly milkshake recipe

I have used mixed fruit jam for this recipe. The folks at the 50’s Prime Time Cafe use grape jelly, which is a jam made with black grapes. You can use your favorite flavor of jam; blueberry, strawberry, what have you. Adjust the amount of the jam depending on how sweet it is. I have Mala’s mixed fruit jam here which is very smooth. If your jam is lumpy, whisk it lightly in a bowl before adding it to the blender along with the other ingredients. Otherwise, you will have stray lumps of jam settles at the bottom of the blender and the milkshake won’t taste as good.

I have chunky peanut butter (also known as crunchy peanut butter) for an interesting, grainy texture. You may use smooth peanut butter, it doesn’t make much of a difference. The subtle saltiness of the peanut butter pairs exceptionally well with the fruity sweetness of the jelly. To make this peanut butter and jelly milkshake healthier, you could use sugar-free jam, skimmed milk instead of full fat milk, and yogurt instead of ice-cream. It will still taste excellent.

Ingredients
For Making Two Servings of Milkshake
  • Vanilla ice-cream - 1 & ½ cups
  • Full fat milk - ½ cup, chilled
  • Jelly/Jam of your choice - 2 tbsp (I used mixed fruits)
  • Peanut butter - 2 tbsp (I used chunky)
For garnish and decoration
  • Salted peanuts - coarsely crushed
  • Jelly/Jam
Instructions
  1. Combine the ice-cream, milk, peanut butter, and jelly/jam in a blender jar. Make sure the jam is not lumpy. Give it a whisk if it is lumpy. Then add it to the blender jar.
  2. Blend together everything for a few seconds until everything blends well. Do blend for too long, else the fat will separate and you will have a watery milkshake.
  3. Apply some jam on the rim of a fancy glass.
  4. Take some coarsely crushed salted peanuts in a plate and turn the glass upside down into the plate to make the peanuts stick to the jam on the rim.
  5. Pour in the milkshake.
  6. Garnish with some crushed salted peanuts. Peanut butter and jelly milkshake is ready. Serve immediately. Enjoy!

I haven’t tried it so I cannot really say. It is mostly about personal preferences so if you think orange jam will pair well with peanut butter, give it a try. Do let me know how it turned out. 🙂
